AppleShare Parallel Data Structure (PDS) files

Each volume on an AppleShare IP server has an invisible file that stores the access privileges for the items on that volume. The file is invisible so that it won't be renamed or deleted.

Every user, group, and folder you create in AppleShare IP is assigned an ID number. AppleShare IP uses the numbers, and not the user, group, or folder name, to store access privileges.

Because users, groups, and folders are referred to by number and not name, you must use AppleShare IP First Aid (or similar software) to make copies of the AppleShare IP PDS file or the Users & Groups Data file. Otherwise, the numbers in the PDS file will not point to the correct user, group, and folder information, and privileges will be lost.
